Welcome to Digging up the Past!

This blog will feature bits and pieces of what I 'dig up' on my journey to learn more about my family and where they came from.  It will include stories, photographs, successes and failures.  Also, I will include hints, tips and useful resources which I have discovered along the way.

To date, my research covers Australia, Ireland, England, Scotland, Wales and New Zealand.  I haven't uncovered any rich or famous people in my family.  However, what I have found is a group of ordinary, hardworking people who were simply trying to provide a better life for their families in times that, more often than not, were difficult.  Thrown into the mix are a few black sheep who put an interesting slant on the history of this family.

  1. It's good to have a few 'black sheep' in the family, because they create an interesting paper trail! (I hope you won't be offended if I suggest that you put your given name or a nickname on your blog or your Blogger profile. In my experience, that will make your readers more inclined to interact with you.)
